Skin Care for Summer

Having a few freckles on your nose after a trip to the beach can be cute, but having sunspots all across your face and body because of sun damage— well, that’s not so cute. Here at our office, we treat patients for a variety of different skin care concerns including hyperpigmentation and sunspots— both of which can be caused by too much sun damage. If you recently got Intense Pulse Light (IPL) therapy or a peel done to help get rid of these spots, we have a few tips for you— especially with summer just around the corner.

Avoid the Sun

The last thing that we encourage patients to do after they have just gotten rid of their sunspots it to go back out in the sun and lay out. Even though the swimmng pool may practically be calling your name, it’s also calling your sun spots back. Try to stay out of the sun after a treatment for as much as possible. If you do want to go to the beach or pool this summer, then try to spend most of your time in the shade.

Wear a Hat

Another thing that you can do if you’re going to be spending a lot of time outside is cover up with a large brimmed hat. Large brimmed hats are the perfect way to shield your face from all angles while still dipping your feet in the pool or chasing your kids around.

Wear Sunscreen

The number one thing that you should be doing— whether you’re spending time outside or not— is wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen on your face during the daylight hours. A Broad spectrum sunscreen is going to act as your face’s natural defense against sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and other damage.

Don’t make the mistake of getting rid of your sun spots only to get them back after spending a day in the sun. To learn more about sun spot treatment, contact us at our Salt Lake City office at 801-513-FACE.
